I would like to give a great big shout out to the 4th Great Wyrley Guides (age 10-14) who since September have been working towards their ‘personal best’ badge.
They have designed ‘inspirational footprints’ which they have sent to me to help me on my walk. These were all great messages. Thank you girls you are so creative and the messages are really helpful. You have put a lot of thought and effort into these.
They have also looked at creating a healthy trail mix for long treks. I’m looking forward to trying the recipes.
Along with the 2nd Great Wyrley Brownies (age 7-10) and 3rd Great Wyrley Rainbows (age 4-7) they have all created their very own Priscilla campervans. Look at these fantastic designs.
Perhaps Priscilla could have a makeover once I’ve finished my trek.
On Tuesday 21st October all three units are taking part in a sponsored ‘pumpkin plod’ raising as much as they can for the final miles of my trek. They will be in Halloween outfits and will be walking to the Proclaimers song ‘I’m gonna be (500 miles)’ as they make their way around their headquarters in Great Wyrley.
This is how far I’ve walked so far. It’s over 5,000 miles and nearly 11 million steps! When I finish next week I will have been walking for 365 days, a whole year.
If I had walked 5,000 miles in a straight line in any direction from where I started in Glasgow I would have been on this blue line. That shows how wiggly our coastline is. Try it with a piece of string.
My advice to you on your Pumpkin Plod,
- Stay safe girls, I always wear my hi-viz vest and a head torch when I’m walking in the dark so that I can be seen by traffic.
- Make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes as you don’t want to get blisters.
- Stay hydrated by drinking water before you start
- Keep your energy levels up by having some healthy food before you start
- Enjoy yourselves during the walk. Chat to your friends and tell jokes and funny stories
- Get lots of photographs so that you can remember the walk
