Day 328: rest day

Best bits: meeting up with Emma and Johnathan, fantastic views

Worst bits: lack of signal

Distance: rest day

When I woke this morning, the sky was blue but the mist was low creating a rather eerie effect. It must’ve been this that had a massive impact on phone signals and Wi-Fi because it wasn’t working for most of the day. This was a little frustrating as I was trying to catch up on admin. My legs were still sore from yesterday’s run. Self inflicted so I had to get on with it but every time I moved it was accompanied by a grunt!

It was finally time to leave the Loch Ness caravan park and say goodbye to Pam and Iain. I made use of all the facilities before I left. I can highly recommend this site.

I drove onto my next destination and was held up at this swing bridge on the Caledonian Canal, allowing a yacht to pass through. It was fascinating watching this as the bridge controller was sitting in his little shed on the bridge as it rotated round through 90°.

I stopped off at Spean Bridge to buy some provisions and exchange my gas bottle. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any full bottles of my size so that’s a job for another day.

The Commando memorial dominates the skyline in a very dramatic way. The three figures lookout over the area in which the commanders trained during the second world war.

The views here are absolutely spectacular even more so today in glorious sunshine and high visibility.

Then it was only a short drive to Emma and Jonathon’s house where the views down the Glen were phenomenal. What a beautiful place to live. We had a lovely relaxing evening with food and drink. Coincidentally Johnathan and I are both Churchill fellows and we shared our experiences.
