Best bits: view at the campsite
Worst bits: heavy legs from walking on the road
Distance: 18.5 miles
It was my intention to be up and out early this morning however when we looked at the weather forecast it had a huge spike for rain at 9 am. So any excuse for a more leisurely breakfast was snapped up. Janet kindly drop me off back at the Corrieshalloch Gorge car park. This was my view back down Loch Broome.

Although I don’t particularly like walking along roads, the scenery today was absolutely stupendous. The sun came out and the sky turned blue creating fabulous views.

In the distance there were a series of high mountains which appeared to increase in size the closer I got to them. One was very craggy on the top and quite distinctive this turned out to be An Tallach.

The road was following the path of the Dundonnell river and its valley. After an initial 5 miles or so of climbing steadily I met Janet for a lunch break. After lunch it was mainly downhill. At the bottom of the steep descent I arrived at the foot of the mountains. From here it looked a very long way to the top as they towered above me and I felt very small indeed.

There was a hotel listed at Dundonnell, which was my end point for today’s walk. However, when we arrived, it looked completely closed up for the season. Also the pub which was attached to it was also closed. Fortunately, I still had half a flask of tea and some jammy dodgers which I ate in Janet‘s car.
I decided as it was only 2 pm and the weather was good I would continue for another 5 miles.
I walked along the side of Little Loch Broome. The wind had died down and the water on the loch was still.

There were extensive farm fishing in the loch and they appear to be building a large facility. I expect that was to manage the produce from the farm.

As I progressed further along this road, it became quieter with much less traffic on it. Towards the finish point I passed this lovely waterfall.

Janet was waiting for me at the end where there was a spectacular view back down Little Loch Broome.

After driving back to pick Priscilla up we made our way to our next stop at Laird campsite. This is truly the best spot. What a view.

We were reminded of local custom on Sundays ‘no hanging washing outside’.

Then the moon rose it was really large in the sky. It made up for missing the total lunar eclipse yesterday due to cloud cover.

My legs were aching from 18 miles of road walking so after a shower, food and a couple of GnTs I jumped in bed.
