Day 116: Port Isaac to Rock

Chris gave me a lift back to Port Isaac, which is Doc Martin country. I walked along the coastal path and through the lovely little village.

I was soon climbing again and got a great view of Port Isaac now in the distance.

The path was very muddy due to the horrendous rain we’ve had over the past few days. I took great care to try not to slip over again! These were the muddy steps up the side of the valley.

I caught up a couple who had been in the car park earlier. This was Laura and Andy. Laura works for the Southwest Coast Path Association and Andy is a volunteer there. They were busy surveying the path. They do it in the winter times because that’s when the path is at its most disturbed state. Well done guys you’re doing a great job.

The weather was much kinder to me today and the sun came out and it became quite warm. It meant that I had great views back across where I had walked from over the last few days.

The path this morning was quite undulating with many ups and downs. Sometimes helpfully there were steps cut into the valley walls. However, they were still pretty steep!

I met quite a few people today, including a couple I met yesterday in Tintagel. They were talking to somebody else and were talking about me!

This was a great view of the path I was about to walk on. Psychologically, it’s great to set targets and this was a great opportunity to do that.

I descended into Port Quin, which was a lovely little place. Very small, but this little house was very beautiful and took my eye.

The peace and quiet was shattered by the sound of a large military plane flying quite low around the coast.

The juvenile in me couldn’t resist taking a picture of this as I was about to walk around the rumps!

I had a lovely chat with Amanda and we discussed the salt path and my story. She was very supportive and we had a lovely hug before we both went to our separate ways.

Eventually, as I came around the headland at Pentire Point I could see Polzeath which was where I was meeting Chris.

Chris had brought Marlow with him who accompanied us to Rock which marked the end of my day walking.

Best bits: beautiful sunny day and spectacular scenery
