Day 37: Day off, Fitsteps Fire and Ice Blackpool

Well, today’s the day we’ve been working towards for a whole year. Even before I started planning my walk, Blackpool was very much in the diary from a Fitsteps perspective. I even planed my route to accommodate arriving in Blackpool for this day.

Even storm Darragh which raged on around us with fierce winds that blew us almost off our feet and huge waves smashing in into the promenade couldn’t stop us.

Wow, arriving in the Blackpool Tower ballroom was just amazing. It’s iconic, beautiful and full of excitement. Walking in for the first time just soaking up the atmosphere the lights the decorations. It was just mind blowing. This is something that you see on the TV for strictly but to be there in person was just astonishing.

We all had our special Fitsteps T-shirts on with the Tracey‘s trek logo on the back, pink cowboy hats ready to go. We were all wearing our big red hearts knitted by Heather sister Sue. The excitement mounted. I gave the Fitsteps team some too including Ian Waite.

Eilidh and I had to be at the back of the dance floor and Parker, the compare, asked the audience to split into two to leave a walkway for Eilidh and I to walk down to the stage to be introduced. It was great being able to do that with Eilidh. We walked up the steps to a round of applause and Eilidh asked me some questions about what I was doing, why I was doing it and then of course we did our dance. All our Fitsteps team came up on stage the music started. With our cowboy hats on our heads we started the dance with Eilidh giving instructions to the audience (and me!). It was just phenomenal to see the whole dance floor full of people doing our dance in unison with us. It’s a sight I’ll never forget. All the time I was on stage there was a slide show on the screen behind me showing images of Angela and myself and Poppy. I didn’t get to see these at the time, but everyone said how powerful the whole thing was.

Phew it was all over and some people came up to us and congratulated us. We gave out cards and hearts and there was a collection that raised £180.

A few dance classes later and my legs were aching for the first time. Then it was time to go back to the hotel to get dressed to impress. Of course pre drinks were a requirement too.

I wore Angela’s wedding dress but couldn’t pull it off like she did.

Eilidh won an award yippee and so did Sarah from our Lancaster gym visit.

I met a wonderful woman, Livvy, at our table. We chatted away sharing our stories. So much to tell.

Then it was dancing into the wee small hours.
