Day 354: Claonaig to Tighnabruaich

Best bits: ferry crossing

Worst bits: saying goodbye to Emma and Andrew

Distance: 9.4 miles

Days to the finish: 11

We had a really leisurely start this morning and had breakfast in a café in Tarbert.

The tide was in and the water was still creating great reflections once more.

Fortunately, the weather was vastly improved on yesterday’s rain and in fact we had to strip off a few layers because it was so warm.

Of course I always have to keep on my hi viz vest just quickly becoming my signature outfit.

After doing the debriefing interviews, I said my final goodbyes to Emma and Andrew.

A quick visit to the co-op for some provisions was followed by a journey across the water to Portavadie on a Calmac ferry. It was Priscilla‘s first trip on a ferry.

The weather was bright and I enjoyed some fresh air on the deck looking back at the Kintyre Peninsula.

I parked up almost immediately on arrival at Portavadie and set off walking towards Tighnabruaich. I was treated to some great views and cloud formations.

At times the route was quite hilly but that made for better views. I was speedwalking this section as I was mindful that I had to make sure I caught the bus at Tighnabruaich as they were only every two hours.

It’s interesting how the clouds create shadows and shade on the landscape where other areas are in glorious sunshine.

Suddenly there was a loud roar from behind me. I turned around to see this huge military aircraft coming straight towards me. It was flying really low and had almost passed me completely by the time I managed to take a photograph.

I must’ve been walking really fast because I arrived at the bus stop an hour early. I looked to see if there was anywhere to go for a cup of tea but unfortunately all the cafés were closed for the day. Then it started to rain.

Luckily I managed to take shelter outside a shop where I sat on some carpet samples. At least I was comfortable for awhile.

The bus turned up on time and I returned to Priscilla at Portavadie. Then I drove to what will be the finish point of my walk tomorrow, parking up in a small layby. I was treated to the sounds of owls and other birds.
