Today would have been Angela’s 60th birthday and our 10th wedding anniversary. No doubt we would have been having some wild celebrations with friends and family. Alas this was not to be the case.
When Angela was 50 I surprised her by secretly organising our wedding. The law had recently changed and even though we had been together for 27 years and had a civil partnership for 9 years I thought it was important to get married as soon as we were able.
Everyone was in on it and if you knew Angela you would know that keeping a secret from her was almost impossible, yet somehow we managed it. We threw a big 1980s themed party at the weekend.
I proposed to her in front of everyone. Of course she said yes. I told her I had booked the day off work for her and that I had organised everything even down to buying her dress. She was overcome with emotion.
We had a wonderful weekend, wonderful day and wonderful life together.
And yes she loved her dress, she always loved to spin when we danced.
Happy birthday and happy anniversary my darling. I have your rings on my finger so you are with me constantly. I miss you more than words can say 💔 I will be toasting you with a glass of champagne this evening while listening to an absolutely beautiful arrangement of ‘I’m gonna be, walk 5000 miles’ that the fabulously talented Maisie and George have performed and produced just for you, and it arrived today. You would have so loved it.
