Best bits: recount from Saturday

Steve kindly dropped Phil and I off in Redcar this morning where we started from where we left off yesterday. It was overcast and threatening rain!
It was mainly road walking today along busy roads, fortunately with pavements. This area is very industrial or should I say was very industrial as the majority of the area is now in decline due to the closure of major industries like steel, shipbuilding, and chemicals, leading to high unemployment.
There wasn’t much to take photographs of today. These signposts for the Teasdale Way were lovely sculptures but the scenery didn’t match it at all. Phil and I chatted while we walked.
The route took us past the ghost town of the decommissioned Wilton site which has involved various stages and projects, including the demolition of large structures like cooling towers and distillation columns at the former ICI Nylon Works and the Teesside Power Station. Work now includes clearing remaining redundant infrastructure like underground pipes and cables.
There was so much rubbish and fly tipping along the paths that were off road. It was sad to see. The final few miles were alongside the railway tracks before we arrived at the Riverside Stadium where we got a cup of tea.
Phil is a Newcastle fan and so much to his annoyance I insisted we got a photo inside the stadium.
Phil and Penny did a recount on the takings from Saturday as some extra donations came in. Penny also remembered where she had put some earlier donations, in with the salt and pepper!!! It was a massive £1,874. Well done everyone.
We were finished in record time today and so the rest of my day was spent updating my website and logistics for tomorrow and my return to Scotland which is in less than two weeks!!!
I generated some images including this world map with 5000 miles centred around Glasgow and the estimated route I am taking around Britain.
