Best bits: spending all day with Viv
Worst bits: cold wind
Distance: 11 miles
After a leisurely start this morning, we said goodbye to Claire. Viv and I drove to Portland to start our circular walk around the island.

Needless to say, it was uphill from the start to the path along the cliff tops. We spotted these huts that had been erected either before or after a rockfall. We couldn’t decide which it was! Either way we decided that we wouldn’t be keen on staying in them.

The view from the top of Chesil Beach was amazing which spanned from West Bay to here. The sea here was amazingly calm and flat compared to yesterday.

Not far into our walk the coastal path was closed and we had to take a diversion. This was actually great as we went through a sculpture park full of weird and wonderful creations. I particularly liked this squid.

However, there were many other interesting sculptures, including elephants, Neolithic type carvings and this of The Roy dog. Frank wasn’t impressed.

After a short while we spotted the Lighthouse. However, they turned out to be more than one Lighthouse and this one, Portland Bill, is the main event.

We popped into the Lobster Pot cafe for a spot of lunch which was excellent. Viv and I both went for the halloumi burgers with chips. We met these chaps who were also walking the South West Coast path.

Back out along the cliff tops, we were hit by the oncoming wind and the sea became much more wild. We came across even more huts here. Huts are obviously a thing in Portland.

We got a good view of the cliff tops in the direction of travel and could also see the cliffs which will be walking on tomorrow.

We met Cheryl and Warren who have set me a puzzle with their generous donation. Warren has been walking the South West Coast path in parts for a number of years. He was just catching up on this section.

Unexpectedly, we came across some wallabies. They did however look a little sad. It was quite windy around this area. Sometimes it’s very strange what you see while you’re walking around the coast.

Back at our start point to end the day as this was a circular walk. We decided to pop into the Beehive café as this had been recommended to us yesterday by Karen. It didn’t disappoint as it had a selection of freshly baked cakes and scones. I enjoyed looking at this hand painted map that allowed me to reminisce on my journey through Summerset, Devon, Cornwall and Dorset on the South West Coastal path.

Viv and I returned to Claire’s house, although she was now away for a few days. She had kindly left us the keys to and told us to make ourselves at home. The people that I have shared my journey with have been absolutely amazingly generous and I thank each and everyone of them.
