Day 149: rest day

Best bits: finding fossils

Worst bits: losing an hours sleep

Distance: rest day

First thing this morning I made use of the shower and at last dyed my hair pink again. After breakfast, we took a stroll through the gardens. we admired the mosaic bench which reminded me of Parc Guel. Lyme Regis is full of colourfully decorated elephants, as you can see in the background to this photograph.

After a short while we stopped for coffee and cake at the., Where the staff gave me extra flapjack and a donation.

Then Claire and I went to fossil hunting. We met Kieron who worked as a palaeontologist at the fossil museum. He showed us some dinosaur poo that he had collected this morning.

Claire had her beady out today and spotted these two ammonite casts on the foreshore which we dug out of the rock. We had to borrow someone’s hammer to help us.

Of course we had to have a photograph with Mary Anning the hero of Lyme Regis fossils.

Claire and I decided to visit the fossil museum and we weren’t disappointed. Apparently, the museum is in the house that Mary Anning lived in. I love the dramatic spiral staircases. This one is in the main hallway.

Maybe this one was the servants stairway!

We had a long chat with Sam, Rosemary and Tina who gave us back our entrance fee. I’ve added this to the online donations. Rosemary is a legendary hiker and regularly walks 20 miles in a day along the cliffs. Tina originally from Liverpool gave me a green calcite crystal. Sam told me about a grief charity called ‘the new normal’ which I shall look up later.

Back at our accommodation, I had a leisurely bath complete with a cup of tea. Then Chris, Claire and I went out for a gorgeous meal at Toms before an early night. The clocks change tonight to British Summertime! So we lose an hours sleep!
