It was really cold last night however, I was warm in bed. For some reason I didn’t manage to get to sleep until after 3am!
Breakfast at Asda, a cheese and tomato toastie, then off by 9am for what my OS map promised would be along day mainly on the road.
I followed the cycle path number 33 for most of the morning. As I went through a housing estate. I saw some bronze sculptures of donkeys which seemed really out of place in the middle of the houses. As I looked closer there was a plaque saying that this was where the donkeys used to walk back from the beach to their pastures.

I was heading towards Uphill and realised why it was called that when I saw a church perched on top of a hill. I had to cross the sluice and came to a café that had plaques on the wall to remember dogs who walked past there.

I caught up a group of ladies Hilary, Ann and Jane walking their dogs Betty, Jazz, Lilly, Coco and Maisie and we had a nice chat.

I was thankful for cycle path 33 as it was a good path and helped avoid the really muddy tracks that make up the coastal path.
I was passed by Glynn and Tommy on their bikes but soon caught them up when they paused for a breather.

I arrived at the beach which was a welcome sight although I wasn’t quite sure of the signs warning of soft sand and mud.

I met quite a few people on the beach, obviously a popular walk, and had a brief chat with them handing out hearts and cards. Then it was a really long walk along the beach to Burnham-on-Sea. Another fairly deserted place where hardly anything was open.

The pier here looks comically small compared to the previous ones.

I stopped and had lunch, another all day breakfast. This time it came with fried bread which was a real mistake. I had to leave that.
I really dislike F-estuaries! The rest of the afternoon was a very long drag along main roads then country roads and then back onto a very busy main road.
While I was on the country roads, I saw sheep with lambs. It seems really early for lambs.

Occupying your time while walking comes in many forms and I try and look at the flora. The hedgerows are starting to bud and even flower.

By the time I got back onto the main road I was really tired and it took all my psychological strength to keep going. I was so relieved when I saw a McDonald’s as this meant I could have a sit down with a cup of tea and something to eat.
I saw a sign to Glastonbury and wondered whether I should take a detour.

Refuelled to some extent it was the final push for an hour to get to Bridgwater station so that I could get back to Priscilla in Weston-super-Mare. I finally crossed the sluice over the river. At last I was on the other side. However, I had developed a bit of a pain in my left heel and so I limped the last half an hour or so.

The station must’ve been rather grand in its time however now its functions have been replaced by a ticket machine!

The train journey took a surprisingly long time. Once at the train station, I had another mile to walk, well limp, back to Priscilla. I made a cup of tea and jumped into bed. It’s a day off walking tomorrow and Fiona is going to be joining me yippee.
Best bits: the beach
Worst bits: F-estuaries and road walking
