Overnight, Poppy had had an accident of the more solid kind on Aly and Mark‘s dining room carpet oops.
A quick cuppa and we were out of there about 7:30 am. Heather drove Poppy and myself to Broughton but the cafe was closed until 10am. Fortunately the wonderful bakers shop café was open an had absolute feast of products on display so spilt for choice.
Heather kindly looked after poppy this morning while I walked to Kirby in Furness. The path had been washed away in places on the marsh land and replaced with giant boulders to protect the railway line.

Unfortunately, these rocks were very slippy as the tide comes up over them and so I had to be very careful on my way along them.

I had another incident with a farm dog. This time it looked a little bit more timid but was still barking. Then I heard about another four or five dogs barking and became a little worried. I discovered that these were locked inside a cage in a barn and were throwing themselves at the door. Phew. I think it would’ve been tricky if I had Poppy with me. I then had to negotiate a river crossing and railway crossings.

Then it started raining and I didn’t have my waterproofs on so I was rather wet by the time I got to Heather only to find that the café in Kirby wasn’t open. Gutted.
Waterproofing donned I was off agin. It was pleasant walking along the marsh land fortunately on a reasonably defined path. Then finishing off along the sand dunes and then into the golf course before arriving at the Platform one cafe in Askam. I had a fantastic lunch of Texan baked beans and met a lovely couple Janet and Carl from Silecroft and we talked about the café that was closed.

I then said my goodbyes to Heather who’s done a fantastic job today helping me out and supporting me along the journey. Then Poppy and I set off for the last leg of the day to Barrow.

The tide was out reviewing massive beach of sand however much of this is dangerous quicksand and so I stuck to the edge. I did get my feet wet as I had to cross a steam.

After walking on a few more roads, the final stretch of the day was on the main A road. Fortunately, there was a path so we did not have to dodge the traffic.

Today for the first time, I’m feeling a little bit weary and I can’t wait to finish. Maybe it’s because I’m now walking on the road which is very busy.
I arrived back at Asda a few minutes before Fiona who had had several delays on her train journey from Glasgow. I realised today Fiona and I will need to spend our week together rehearsing our dance in readiness for Blackpool. I hope my feet are up for it. I’m not quite sure they’ll get into my evening shoes but at least they’ll fit into my trainers now.
I spent most of the evening trying to tidy up Priscilla as everything was everywhere!!
