Day 14: Carsluith to Kirkcudbright

Poor Steve had to get up in the middle of the night to let Poppy out but then she slept in and so did we till just after 8 am. So that meant a late start to the day for me. Just as well the patching of my feet takes less time now. I got dropped off where I finished yesterday. Poppy was having a day off. I walked along a lovely lane for a while, the sun was shining and made the fantastic autumnal colours even more beautiful.

Then a reality check back on the A75 road with HGV and cars whizzing past about 70 miles an hour and no path. It made for slow progress as I had to hop onto the roadside verge, every 30 to 40 seconds so I couldn’t quite get into any rhythm. When I stopped as a bus was approaching, it stopped for me thinking I needed a lift which was very kind and the driver was very shocked when I waved him on.

Eventually, I had to take a track that ran under the main road which meant climbing down from a bridge. This finally led me to the sea shore and a beautiful deserted beach. I spent a few minutes walking along the sand, thinking about Angela and remembering the times we wrote our names in the sand before we went, and during, our trip to New Zealand. So I wrote something appropriate in the sand.

Rhoda and Steve were in a bit of a flap about where to park because it was a dead end with no car parking. I had to remind them that we were in Scotland and there’s hardly any traffic normally and we are out of season.

It’s really pleasant walking with the sea on my right today. The scenery is beautiful and the sea is very calm. The sun was shining what a beautiful day. I took a video of myself with the beautiful background saying that when the weather was bad I could replay it to remind me how beautiful it can be.

Half an hour later look what happened for the rest of the day!!

It got more dramatic as the sun started to set and the moon rose.

I had to finish walking by 5pm and so needed to get a far as possible before it became too dark. So in true Tracey fashion I decided to run the last 3 miles!! It’s a testament to my recovering feet and my general fitness that I managed it. Almost a park run!

The reason was that I was due to give a talk at 6pm for the Rotarians in Dalbeattie. I enjoyed the session, met some lovely people (all men) and had some good feedback, well wishes and donations and I was treated to a nice meal.

We then had to travel back to Kirkcubright so it was a bit of a late night to bed as I still had to charge my gadgets, do my relieve video, check social media, check the route for tomorrow and write this blog.
